"Entitlements" will probably be a big topic of discussion for me on my blog. This is a huge thorn in my side and really gets under my skin. I have so many issues with this, that I don't even know where to begin.
For starters, our true entitlements come from our Creator, not from our government. We are entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That's it, and call me crazy, but I think those are pretty great. If you don't believe in your true entitlements, then go live in Cuba or some other oppressed nation and find out how the other half lives. I think our true entitlements, from our Creator, are invaluable.
That said, we are NOT "entitled" to steal from our neighbor. "Entitlements" as defined by the government are in essence stealing from one's neighbor. Growing up, I was taught that stealing was wrong. It is pretty simple. One is not "entitled" to something that belongs to another. So why is it that the general populace of the left thinks that not only is stealing right, but that it is expected? Our entitlement to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness does not include a free house, free car, free food, free healthcare, and free money from my paycheck and other hard working Americans. It also doesn't include spending money yet to be earned by future generations.
Don't get me wrong, I am in favor of being charitable and helping those in need. But this does not mean that others are "entitled" to what I have earned, and I am including the government in the "others" category. I find it interesting that the left portrays themselves as the friend of the poor and is there to help. Statstically, the left has more money than the right, and yet the right is substantially more charitable than the right. If you don't believe me, just google and compare Bush and Obama, Cheney and Biden for examples. The proof is in the numbers.
Not only is the left less charitable, recent news has also exposed the left as not paying all of their taxes. I think this news combined with the left's plan to increase taxes and limit the charitable contribution deduction is quite interesting. They are looking to enact laws that don't affect them very much personally, while they run around spreading propaganda that they are trying to help the poor, while bashing the right, and declaring that they and others are "entitled" to our money.
The madness must stop. This is why my motto is the "left isn't right".
